Who are Rennie and Rosie? We'd love to introduce you!
Rennie is a fictional character created by co-founders and authors Jennie and Renata as part of The Rennie Reading Experience. The “Experience” is a literacy-based program they created which has been implemented within their early childhood education centers in Toronto since 1992. Built through years of hands-on experience, the program is designed to nurture a strong foundation in reading. Rennie, an engaging and inspiring presence, represents the heart of the program encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a love of reading in children.
Rosie is her fun-loving corgi who also plays an important role in each child’s reading journey. Rosie helps create a warm and reassuring environment that provides emotional support to children as they build their literacy skills.
Together, Rennie and Rosie bring learning to life, adding imagination and connection to the reading process. Throughout the series, new characters will be introduced, and all their roles will help create a positive environment where children feel excited to participate and take risks in their learning.
As a result of this supportive, engaging approach, children who have graduated from the “Experience” and have ventured off to Junior Kindergarten demonstrate strong early literacy skills: they confidently sound out words and are independently reading, while showing enthusiasm and readiness for the next stage of their educational journey.
